A 130-year-old gray stone mansion holds a kind of beauty that cannot be replicated—but it can be reimagined. This center hall Colonial, rich in history, no longer fit the rhythm of contemporary family life. Our mission was to preserve its grandeur while creating spaces that breathe, gather, and evolve.
The original layout followed a traditional format: A formal dining room on one side, a receiving parlor on the other, and a grand living space at the end of the hall. While elegant, these boundaries no longer made sense for a young family.
We reconfigured the entire home, introducing a Great Room that seamlessly connects the kitchen and living areas.
The former parlor became a cozy, intimate TV nook with a custom U-shaped sofa designed for both comfort and storage.
The dining room was transformed into a true Great Room—a central space for cooking, gathering, and everyday moments.
Knowing the clients loved to entertain, we introduced a Dining Parlor—an elegant yet flexible space for hosting, dining, and conversation. The space includes:
A grand antique dining table, sourced from an auction house.
Perennial rugs, vintage artwork, and curated antiques.
Rather than imposing a new style, we honored the home’s original craftsmanship, meticulously researching period-appropriate paneling and millwork. Every detail—the custom bar, suspended shelving, intricate paneling—was designed to match the home’s original character, ensuring authenticity.
Perhaps the greatest measure of success? This client has referred more new clients than any project in our history—a testament to the lasting impact of thoughtful design.
